About us

City Family Practice is an accredited general practice established over 50 years ago in the centre of Canberra. The doctors at City Family Practice have extensive experience managing the health of patients across the spectrum of general health care, often treating multiple generations of the one family - putting the Family in City Family Practice!
Our team of doctors are supported by our experienced Practice Nurses, Jan and Philip, who have been at the practice for a number of years.
Finally, our reception team, made up of Mandalika, Louise, Andrea, Angela and led by Liz (our Practice Manager), have been providing invaluable administrative support for many years to our clinical team and patients.

Our fees, booking, telehealth, results/recalls, feedback, and privacy policies

Fees

  • Full payment is due at the end of the consultation - Discounted fees apply to Pension and Health Care Card holders.
  • Estimated fees for procedures/minor operations will be discussed with the doctor during consultation.
  • Only DVA Gold Card will be direct billed to Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • The Full Rate fee for the appointment booked will apply to late notice cancellations (less than 4 hours’ notice) and non-attendance. The account will need to be paid prior to re-booking an appointment.

Booking

  • New patients to the practice need to call to book their first appointment. Existing patients can book an appointment over the phone or through our online booking system, HotDoc.
    • A regular consultation is up to 15 minutes and is usually enough time to address a single query or 1-2 simple concerns. If you have more than one query or your concerns are more complex, please book a long consultation.
    • It could be the case that if you attend a regular consultation with multiple concerns, it may take several consultations to resolve those concerns, so that we do not keep other patients waiting for an extended amount of time. If you are unsure whether you require a regular or long consultation, please contact our reception team.
  • We encourage all patients to review their regular scripts before any routine appointments with the doctors, to ensure repeat prescriptions are provided during the consultation. Scripts and Referrals without a consultation may incur a fee.
  • Home visits are available for those patients whose medical condition prevents them from attending the surgery, and at the discretion of the doctor.  Fees will be discussed at the time of booking.
  • Translating and interpreting services, and/or hearing assistance is available for patients.

Telehealth Consultations

  • All doctors at City Family Practice are available for Telehealth consultations.
  • Telehealth consultations cannot be booked online, please call City Family Practice to book a Telehealth consultation.
  • Preference for the doctors is to see patients' face-to-face. The decision to conduct a telehealth consultation is at the sole discretion of the doctor and guided by the criteria below:
    • You are a regular patient of the practice; and
    • You are interstate or unable to attend the Practice due to a transport logistical issue, or
    • The medical care requested can be discussed/resolved over the phone without the need for a physical examination (to the best of the receptionist knowledge), or
    • You were told by the doctor at a previous appointment that you were able to book a telehealth consultation to follow-up on a previous appointment, or
    • You have recently tested positive to COVID-19 and are in self-isolation
  • Telehealth consultations are booked by receptionists. There is no guarantee the telehealth consultation will commence at the appointment time, the doctor will call you when they are able to. The doctor will attempt to call you twice and if there is no answer, another telehealth consultation will need to be booked.
  • At the time of booking, reception will advise you that telehealth consultations may incur a fee (as per consultation rates), but this is at the discretion of the doctor. You will also be advised that if there is a consultation fee, to contact the practice after your consultation to arrange payment over the phone.
  • As per Medicare regulations, patients who have not been seen face-to-face by their doctor or by a doctor at the Practice in the last 12 months are not eligible for a Medicare-rebate telehealth consultation, unless they meet Medicare’s current exception criteria.
  • New patients that have not been seen by a doctor at the Practice, are not offered a telehealth/telephone consultation, they need to make a face-to-face appointment.

Results and Recall Appointments

  • Patients are responsible for following up their test results.
  • Patients are encouraged to call the practice and where possible test results will be given over the phone or an appointment will be made to discuss the results with the doctor.
